Marian’s story is one that is very typical of how a lot of women find themselves in a situation where they want and need to lose weight and get fit for good. While very active in her early years the weight began to creep up on her in her late teens as it does with a lot of young girls. College life is rarely accompanied by a good exercise regime and a person’s diet usually goes to hell too and this is how Marian found herself in a battle with her weight. She didn’t like the fact that she was limited in what she could wear and so she joined a slimming club. She shed just short of two stone by following the diet and walking. Over time her weight went back up a little but she continued to walk and eat what she believed was a good diet for weight loss.
When she got engaged in 2014 she decided that she really wanted to lose the extra few pounds. Even after her big weight loss there were still areas of her body that she wasn’t confident about. She wanted to tone up and feel amazing, not so much for her dress like most brides-to-be but for her honeymoon. She contacted me about joining my bootcamp classes and even though she found the first few weeks tough (only barely avoiding throwing up on the first night) she persisted and refused to let her lack of fitness get the better of her. Marian mentioned to me that she might like to get some additional personal training just at the time when I was putting together the online plan so I asked her if she would like to trial it. Even though she doubted her discipline and was afraid she might not be able for it she was too stubborn not to give it a go.
Some elements of the food plan were tricky for Marian. When someone has been a member of a slimming club for a long time they can find it hard to enter into a new way of thinking about food. Marian had been very focused on the fat content of food over the years and so my plan seemed alien to her. However she was persuaded by me and encouraged by her fiancé Padraig to stick with it. She couldn’t believe how much she was allowed to eat and loved that she had options. She never felt like she was on a diet and could still go out and enjoy herself at the weekends. Marian was very honest with me when she had bad days or weeks and I just kept reminding her that each day or week was a chance to get back on track and she always did. Despite her dietary slip-ups she stuck more stringently to the exercise plan and continued to lose pounds and noticed her clothes getting looser.
By the time it came to Marian’s last dress fitting a couple of weeks before her wedding her seamstress warned her that if she lost any more inches she couldn’t promise that the dress could be altered any further. She was a beautiful bride and felt it on the day. More importantly when she went on her honeymoon to Orlando and New York she had the confidence to wear shorts and not feel self conscious. She is confident that she will continue with her new healthy lifestyle too. It was such a pleasure to help Marian. She gave me such honest feedback every week about how she was doing and it really helped me to shape the online fitness plan and make any changes that I felt were necessary.
